Growing up in the country, with few human playmates, I spent many of my days walking in our orchard soaking up the wonders of nature. Those early years put me on a path which led to studying ecology. As an ecologist, I love learning about the connections between and among species.
At age 64, I still get excited when a butterfly visits my flowers. My yard is a bit wild, untouched by pesticides and with some less commonly planted wildflowers, but it pays me back with the diversity it harbors. Bees, spiders, foxes and hawks – I love them all.
